Research Findings
“What are we learning together?”
Research Findings
Introduction
This page summarizes what the Adaptive Inquiry Community is learning through behavioral experiments, case studies, organizational applications, and ongoing research.
The findings reported here are provisional.
They are not offered as proof of the IDL methodology, but as evolving observations generated through disciplined inquiry, experimentation, and continued testing.
Like every aspect of Integral Deep Listening, these findings remain open to revision as additional evidence emerges.
Current Investigations
Current Questions
- Does perspective participation reduce interpersonal conflict?
- Which interviewing practices produce the greatest behavioral change?
- Under what conditions do recommendations fail?
- Does dream interviewing generate more novel behavioral experiments than life-issue interviewing?
- Which organizational practices best preserve adaptive responsiveness?
- How does AI influence adaptive inquiry?
- What conditions increase or decrease reorganizability?
Emerging Findings
For example:
Deep Listening
Current Observation
Across 48 reported experiments, participants consistently reported that postponing interpretation increased the number of novel recommendations generated during interviews.
Confidence
Moderate
Evidence
47 personal experiments
6 organizational applications
2 workshop demonstrations
Questions Remaining
Does this effect persist over time?
Repeat for
Perspective Participation
Behavioral Testing
Triangulation
Dream Interviewing
etc.
Unexpected Results
Examples:
- Recommendations that consistently failed.
- Situations where interviewing made no difference.
- Practices that worked differently than expected.
- AI recommendations that proved unusually effective—or ineffective.
- Findings that challenge IDL assumptions.

Annual Reports
The State of Adaptive Inquiry
Summarize:
- experiments,

- failures,
- methodological changes,
- new questions,
- future directions.
I would add one feature that I think could become unique.
At the bottom of every finding:
| Finding | Confidence | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Interviewing before interpreting increases novel reframings. | Moderate | 62 experiments, 3 workshops, consistent qualitative reports |
| Perspective Councils improve organizational adaptability. | Preliminary | 5 organizational case studies |
| Dream interviewing produces more unexpected recommendations than life-issue interviewing. | Low | Small sample; additional research needed |
